Kona Hawaii fishing report - 11/5/98

While the acres and acres of baitfish and Otado haven't figured out that summer is over yet, most of the big predator fish cycles have returned to normal for this time of year. The Pacific Blue Marlin bite has been spotty with wide swings in the daily catch numbers. The Striped Marlin schools have started moving in as the Yellowfin Tuna schools have migrated out. The Bigeye Tuna should be showing up within the next few weeks. The Mahi Mahi bite is in full swing and 25 to 50 pounders have been the prominent "catch of the day" recently. Ono fishing has been very productive for the ones who persevere in the shallows and steep ledges. Bottom fishing catches of Snapper Weke-'ula and Grouper are picking up as winter approaches making for some of the best table fare a fisherman can hope for. The Amberjack bite has been slow but will soon be picking up as their breeding season winds down.

See 'ya on the water,
Capt. Jeff Rogers
