Kona Hawaii fishing report 7/13/00 ,

Kona is well known for it's summertime run of huge Pacific Blue Marlin. There have been several caught over 500 pounds since my last report in June. The bite is kind of slow right now but, when you consider that a 200 pounder is looked upon as a small one right now, I consider the Marlin fishing good. Black Marlin are somewhat rare here in Kona and the size is usually a bit smaller than the ones they catch in Australia. I think one of their Black Marlin decided to vacation in Hawaii for the summer because we caught an 843 pounder on my boat just yesterday. A 7 ½ hour battle on 80 lb. test line (photo @ my web site).

The Shortnose Spearfish run is nearly over but there's still a few coming in. The Mahi Mahi bite is a bit slow too but there's still a few coming in each week. The Ono bite has been good with several coming in each day. If you're looking for food fish, this should be your target.

The bottom fishing bite usually slows down considerably during the summer but I guess they don't know how to use a calendar down there. The water conditions are great and the bite is good. Especially for Kahala. Don't hesitate to email me for report updates.

See 'ya on the water,
Capt. Jeff Rogers
