"I'm that confident that you'll have a great time!"

Thanks Captain Jeff! Had a great time. Enjoyed sitting up top with you having conversations about the mysteries of life! It was fun looking backwards as the bait cut through the deep blue water to see humpback whales rolling and blowing in the not too far distance.

Watching the blue marlin explode at the surface as he hit the bait, feeling his power as the drag screamed and he almost spooled us, watching him come to the surface after an hour of fight, my exhilaration, pain and blisters, these are memories of a lifetime. Yep, we had a great time! Thank you for the experience of a lifetime!

Aloha Jeff,
Just wanted to say thanks for a great trip, my fishing buddies are still commenting on the 63lb Ono. I've been on a lot of charter boats and have never seen a captain work harder to get his clients on the fish. We both really enjoyed being part of the crew on the Aloha Kai as opposed to watching a mate do all the work. Having some responsibilities on the trip kept us engaged in the process and made it much more enjoyable. Also your willingness to share knowledge and experience was a nice bonus. We will not hesitate to book another trip when we return to the "Big Island".
We both wish you the best of luck,
Tom and Sue.

PS
Jeff worked hard all day to put us on the fish. This fish was just 7lb shy of the largest Ono caught in Kona this year. In addition we caught a 40lb Spearfish an 8lb snapper and had a large shark break the line near the boat. All around great day!

Jeff, I wanted to send you a note of appreciation for taking my son and I on a great fishing trip! Ono, Tuna, Spear Fish and a Shark! It doesn't get much better than that! Especially considering the fishing was slow. Our boat was the only boat that was flying flags at the end of the day.
See you next year!

Thanks Capt. Jeff! My two teenage sons and I had a fantastic time fishing with you last week. The bait fish were fun (just ask my younger son), the amberjack and the shark were a thrill for my older son and I was incredibly happy to catch a nice sized shark and the marlin! What a day - definitely the best day of deep sea fishing for me.

Amazing Captain kept things exciting, we saw a pod of whales, and some dolphins....gorgeous weather made for a beautiful day at sea.... Never a dull moment and learned alot about fishing that day...sure is different than fishing for trout or pike!!

Had a great day on a share charter with Capt. Jeff on March 12. This was my second trip with Jeff and he did a great job again. The 3 fisherpeople all caught a nice fish, 2 big amberjack and a 48 (or so) pound Ulua (GT) for me! We also had a nice mahi mahi on for a few moments. I really like his trolling / bottom fishing approach as it nearly assures those on board are going to have the thrill of a battle with a quality fish. Thanks!

On February 23rd we booked a 6 hour charter from Captain Jeff for myself, my wife and my son and his wife. It was a little slow trolling for about 2 hours but we did manage to catch some bait fish, so Captain Jeff said he knows where we can catch some fish. I hooked a giant trevally shortly after and about 1/2 way into the fight, a tiger shark grabbed My fish and got hooked! It was a brutal 1 1/2 hours to get the two fish that were pinned on the same circle hook to the boat. Right under the boat, the hook straightened out and the 800 lb. tiger shark came off but the giant trevally stayed hooked. The tiger came up out of the water trying to retrieve his lost meal. After taking some great videos and a couple of photos, we gave the trevally back to the tiger. On the troll home my son caught a mahi mahi for the dinner table. The trip for us was once in a life time for catching the Tiger Shark. We all had a great time and would recomend Captian Jeff for your Kona Fishing.

I arranged a charter with Capt Jeff as a surprise for my husband's birthday. I had been impressed with Capt. Jeff's website, including all his fishing information. We had an absolutely amazing time CATCHING with Capt. Jeff January 24th, 2012. My husband caught a striped marlin, and still talks about this being one of the best days of his life! Our group also caught yummy yellowfin tuna, and a very large shark! If you want to go CATCHING, Capt. Jeff is the best choice.

Had a great time fishing with Capt. Jeff Rogers on a shared full day charter 0n 9/20/11. Started out slow and it took a while to catch some bait fish. We changed tactics twice and the other share angler caught a trevally and I later caught a 200# blue marlin. Lots of fun and Capt. Jeff knows how to go after fish. He used different tactics at different spots until we got some fish. I highly recommend his charter.

I've gone fishing with others before but catching with Captain Jeff was the high point of my fishing life. Flying 5 flags into port on a "slow" day---PRICLESS! To watch a blue marlin dance on its tail across the open sea was breathtaking. We get to relive that thrill every day when the mount arrives. Thanks Jeff!

Went 'catching' with Captain Jeff on May 9, 2011, with my son, John, from Berkeley, Ca, my stepson Bret Freitas from Paradeise, CA, and my son-in-law Jeff Theobald from Heber City, Utah. John and I caught two nice (ca 10 lb) tuna and then Bret brought in a 60 lb striped marlin. Jeff hooked intp what seemed to be a large tuna, but on its last run, the line went slack, apparently bitten off. Hooking up a smaller tuna the John caught i while bringing in the lines, Jeff hooked a 350 lb Galapagos shark. I ended the day with another nce tuna.

I fished with Captain Jeff on February 28th and with a couple of other gents from Fairbanks Alaska, Brian and Mark. We had a ball and whilst quantity was down for the day, quality was very good. Jeff is a true professional in every way and I wouldn't hesitate to go out again. But be warned, book early as he gets busy.

My mother and I went our on February 18 and had a blast with Captain Jeff (we were also fortunate enough to have a steller day of fishing). Captain Jeff was a true professional He showed true patients helping my mother with the who is a novice fisherman at best, who up until that day the largest fish she had caugth was a small silver salmon. Living in SE Alaska I have been out on multiple fishing charters in the past, have fiends in the trade. I can honestly say was a great choice for my mother and I, and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. Best of all he definitly knows how to catch fish.

Aloha, we fished with Captain Jeff on January 21 2011 with a large swell on the ocean. First off Jeff has great boat handling skills especially in tricky conditions. Secondly we started trolling very quickly after leaving the harbor and soon hooked a Blue Marlin on stand up gear which took well over an hour to bring to the boat and release, so check on his fishing skills as well. I am not so sure about his weight estimating skills though as he estimated the fish at 400# however I am sure it was at least double that, in fact it has gained around 10 pounds a day since then in my memory! Soon it will be a grander! Seriously though we had a great time and plan to fish with Jeff again. Boating skills, check. Fishing skills, check. Local Knowledge, Check. Fun to spend the day fishing with, check.I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. Mahalo.

Capt. Jeff: Brian and I wanted to say thank you once again for the great day of fishing we had with you last Monday, October 4th. You know exactly where to go to get a hook up and you can pretty much do it on command. We were impressed with the condition of the boat and all of the equipment. Your attention to detail was apparent in all aspects of the trip and your knowledge of the waters off Kona are superb. We really had a ball fighting our big amber jacks and sharks.

We wish you much continued success and if we ever get the opportunity to visit Kona again, we definitely want to fish with you! Take care -

We had a great time fishing, or more like catching I should say, with Capt. Jeff. Unfortuantely the Marlin took the day off when we went, so we trolled for some small bait fish to see what sea monster's we could pull up from the bottom. We caught and released 5 Giant Trevally, and we ended the day with an Oceanic Black Tip shark weighing in over 300+ pounds. I highly recommend Capt. Jeff, and next time were back in Kona, we'll definately be chartering with him again! Thanks for the great memories!

We had a great fishing trip on the day we spent with Captain Jeff. He is very knowledgeable and knows how to catch fish. When the Blue Marlin and other fish we were after were not around he switched tactics and we caught three Giant Trevally’s and two 300+ sharks. One was an Oceanic Black Tip, the other a Galapagos. I come from Portuguese family that fished commercially on the west coast. Captain Jeff is highly recommended. :)

My wife and I had a great time on our full day trip! Catching all the different fish no matter how small was a blast just getting to see them up close. Of course the 100lb amberjack was the highlight of the trip. I went online looking for pre-made mounts and I can only find them up to around 80lbs, so obviously it was a beast! The chef at our inn (even if it is illegal) made us eggs benedict over the ahi for breakfast, and he was very excited when I let him take the rest home. Can't wait to get out with you again as soon as we can. Need to find those marlin!

We visited 4 islands the last two weeks of March and fishing with Capt. Jeff was the highlight of the trip for our 13 year old son and quite the adventure for me as well. Believe it or not (we have the photos and video) my son hooked a 1500+ lb. Tiger shark! From the pictures maybe 5 feet wide and 14 or 15 ft. long. I'm sure Jeff is still feeling that one because he is the one who fought it for an hour and a half (or my son would have been Tiger dinner). The Tiger finally dropped right off the end of the boat but then circled several times, thinking about going after what was left on the line of the Amber Jack he stole. It turned out that was a 50 lb. Amber Jack Capt. Jeff had caught and tagged this past December! What are the odds?? It was wild!! We also caught some other nice sized Amber Jack and Almaco. It was a fantastic and memorable day. Capt. Jeff is the best!! Thank you Jeff! Rick will remember this and retell it for the rest of his life. You should have seen the crowd gathered around his little camera back at the Mauna Lani that evening.

What a day we had with Captain Jeff. December is a slow time for fishing but Captain Jeff worked hard to make sure we had a great time. Aloha and mahalo capt. Jeff, had a great day fishing with you. Glad I was able to bring ahi home for dinner. I did not for one moment, given the time of year, think we would hook up with a blue marlin, much less one that would weigh in at 598 lbs. This was a fish of a lifetime. Your knowledge, skills and abilities are what made it possible to get it to the dock. It would have been better to release it, but that was out of our hands.

Aloha Capt. Jeff,
Mahalo again for the great time I (or shall I say "we", hahaha) had this year. This year, during 5 days of fishing, we caught lots of nice/big fish with light gear which was great fun. We also made it to "The Big Fish list" (finally) with a big Otado (Skipjack tuna). Too bad we couldn't catch a "Tiger", so we've to go on "Tiger-hunting" again next year, :). For the people who are interested, on my website there are some nice video clips of drilling nice fish (big Tigershark) while out on the beautiful nice calm blue water of Kona offshore with Capt. Jeff.

The Ono we caught was fantastic. We had it for dinner on Thursday, lunch and dinner on Friday, and even breakfast on Saturday. :-) Yummy!

Fishing with Capt. Jeff is indeed money well spent. After several salt-water fishing excursions, I have learned at least a few things. There is a huge difference between a Capt. who wants to put fish in the boat and those that are just putting in 8 hours driving around and whatever happens, happens. Capt. Jeff puts fish in the boat!!!! We were staring at a 100% certain skunk day and Capt. Jeff put us on "The Grounds". I was skeptical at best as we came to Hawaii for big fish. I can fish off the bottom in Iowa lakes for gosh sakes. Shortly, I was worried about actually being pulled out of the boat as I braced myself for the fight of my life. I was certainly not in Iowa anymore!!! We had just tangled with a 600lb+ Dusky Shark with stand-up tackle. The pure power of these creatures cannot be described. We got amazing video and two weeks later my 40 year old back & arms still remind me of what I would call an "action vacation". Everyone comes to Kona with the same dream of a grander billfish but if you let Capt. Jeff use his experince and expertise, you will get that chance plus the added bonus of a potential surprise with the other under-estimated game fishes of Hawaii.
If you want to put the best odds in your favor of a once in lifetime catch, give this Capt. a try.

Alohaaaaa, this was our 5th year in a row that we visited our favorite (fishing) holiday destination: KONA. It was also 1 of the best catching years. I brought some gear of my own which couldn't stop some really big fish from "fleeing" unfortunately :(. Next year I will bring some heavier gear/line with me, that's for sure.
But the 4 days this year, we caught some nice fish with jigging and live bait on the bottom and had a lot of fun as we have every time when we're out on the nice and flat Kona waters. You just have to bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, lunch/drinks and a good mood. Captain Jeff will bring you (to) the fish, :D. He knows the Kona offshore like the back of his hand! A fishing day with Capt. Jeff is always exciting and you never know in advance on what size of fish he puts you on to.
Mahalo again Capt. Jeff, until next year. Oh and please keep feeding that 1400lbs tiger shark. I think it will be a good workout fighting that one next year, lol.

My husband and I are fishing fanatics...but at home in RI we fish freshwater for bass. When we learned that our daughter had planned a May wedding in Hawaii...there was only one other thing we knew for sure that we wanted to do while we were there...and that was some sport fishing. We contacted Captain Jeff after finding his website impressive and he was very responsive to all my questions. I booked our 3/4 day trip on the Intrepid for May 5, 2008. Captain Jeff did not disappoint us...we caught fish all day. Being the only female on the trip (and the one that coordinated it) the guys let me fish first. I started out the day with a short billed spear fish about 35-40 pounds. That was followed by some mahi mahi and tuna. The activity never stopped. We were fortunate that we had rented a house with a full kitchen, so after sharing a portion of our catch with the captain and mate we took the remaining fish home and had a great fish fest. We had so much fish that we fed our party of 12 hefty portions as well as giving fish to the groundskeeper and then freezing the remainder (about half our catch) for our kids to keep with them in Hawaii.
It was a great day on the water. Capt. Jeff and his mate were friendly and hospitable. The boat was plenty big for our group of 6 and the air-conditioned cabin was a nice retreat from the sun in between catches.
With no hesitation I recommend Capt. Jeff and the Intrepid.
If you're booking long distance from the website...no worries.....Captain Jeff runs a legitimate business and it was a pleasure "catching" with him. Thanks Captain Jeff for adding to the great experiences and memories of our Hawaii visit!!!

Capt. Jeff is definitely an old sea dog that knows where the fish live. He put Adam and me on a number of fish that were exciting to catch. He knows the waters and has the knowledge of the all species of fish in the Hawaiian waters. If you are looking for a great time and a life long experience sign up soon. It was a blast to crew on his boat. Boomer Sooner Robby Whiteley

I had a great time with Capt. Jeff! He definitely knew what he was doing and was able to give us a great day of fishing. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to have a fun time and catch some great fish (as well as a couple of sea monsters too)! Great equipment, great boat, great times!

Never having been to Hawaii before, it was tough to know where to start and who to pick for my fishing trip. I've fished from the east coast through to Alaska, but this was the first time I've gone to Hawaii and the first time I'd gone in knowing nothing about captains in the area. Picking Capt. Jeff was the best choice I could have made. The time and detail he has put into his website is a strong representation of what you can expect from Capt. Jeff on your trip. He was great company, had superior knowledge of the area, and had us on fish all day. He worked hard to make it a great experience and blended fishing styles perfectly throughout the day which lead to our nice mixed bag of fish and a great time. Mahalo Capt. Jeff and tight lines.

What an incredible day of fishing! I have been fishing most of my life on the mainland, and this trip was something else. The variety of fish we caught was amazing -6 different species, including the marlin, which was a dream fulfilled even though it was not a "grander" (next time!). When I return to the island, I will be getting in touch with Jeff to schedule another trip, but this time I'll lift weights for at least 6 months beforehand to be in better shape to wrestle the fish (my arms were stiff and sore for several days). It was an excellent trip, Capt. Jeff knows his stuff and was great company. I would highly recommend fishing with him to anyone. Mahalo, Jeff!!! See you next year, God willing. Dale

Few of us are fortunate enough to have experiences in life that are hardly defined by the English language. There are not enough words available to describe the experience my family had aboard Captain Jeff's "Intrepid" on March 31, 2008. Little did we know that we were in for the adventure of a lifetime when we were greeted by Captain Jeff and Co-Captain Rick Reger around 7:20 a.m. on this beautiful Monday morning. In moments, we were underway! My wife Angela, 13-year-old daughter Lauren, 11-year-old son Jacob & I climbed up the ladder to the bridge and visited with Captain Jeff as we motored out of the harbor. The water was beautiful! Rick quickly went about the business of getting some lines in the water on our supposed troll to some jigging waters for some Mahi Mahi or Amberjack for the kids to wrestle in. Once he successfully deployed some custom-made lures, we were beckoned below for an orientation on what to do should we hook into a fish. The 3 or 4 minute lesson ended, and out of "the chair" I came to settle in for a scenic trip to the jigging area. My wife ventured back up the ladder to the bridge and no sooner arrived at her seat when she yelled, "There's a fish!" Captain Jeff yells, "Fish on" and Rick instructs me to get in the chair. He hands me the rod and I hook up to the rod just as instructed and it's game on! Jacob, my son, is my right hand man the entire 3 hour fight, pivoting my chair as necessary to point the rod tip at this monster fish. The incredible Pacific Blue Marlin tail dances across the water in a manner one could only dream about. A half hour into the fight, my arms are burning, my mouth is dry and I'm sweating profusely. I'm wondering how we're going to get this beast to the boat. Captain Jeff masterfully backs the boat in a straight line for an entire mile before the fish turns to the open sea. She dives deep and Captain Jeff begins a series of circles that enables us to keep her within a couple hundred yards of the boat. Jacob continues to pivot my seat as directed by my commands of "Left, Left, Left" and "Right, Right, Right!" Eventually, we're able to get her to the boat and I'm relieved and exhausted as Rick attempts to get a wrap on the fish. Little did I know that this attempt would be the first of many as this amazing creature was having nothing to do with giving up. I lost count, but the marlin repeatedly dove deep and favored the port-side of the boat. We would wrestle her back to the starboard side and Rick would attempt another wrap. Off she would go again. Finally, Rick got a good hold on her and Captain Jeff bailed off the bridge to assist. With a little extra effort, Jeff and Rick were able to get a couple of gaff hooks in her. I gingerly dismounted out of "the chair" and Jeff, Rick & I proceeded to try and pull the marlin into the back of the boat. This was next to impossible. I was spent and the fish was incredibly large. Meanwhile, my wife spotted something else in the water near the marlin. Sharks? Three Oceanic White Tip Sharks were feasting on the tail section of our marlin. This resulted in a new sense of urgency to get the fish into the boat. Once again, our efforts were unsuccessful. We tied the fish off with the ropes attached to the gaffs and Captain Jeff instructed Rick to motor toward the harbor...away from the sharks. It worked! However the sharks trailed the "Intrepid" about 30 yards behind waiting for another shot at our fish. Captain Jeff was able to sit with his foot against the marlin's dorsal fin and held onto a rope attached to a gaff. He told me to grab a smaller gaff and hook it into the knot on the gaff he was holding. Together, we painfully held onto the marlin as Rick motored us toward the harbor, sharks in pursuit. Another boat greeted us as we neared the harbor and managed to scare the White Tip Sharks away. The plan was to move the marlin along side the boat and secure her so we could enter the harbor. Captain Jeff realized that we were in Tiger Shark Alley and decided to get us into the harbor first rather than risk losing any more marlin to the sharks. I remember him saying, "If a Tiger wants her, he'll take her!" Off we go again toward the harbor and the safety of shallower waters. This beautiful creature weighed in at 1,056 pounds, even after losing an estimated 100-150 pounds to the sharks. A "Grander"! Less then 15 minutes into my first marlin outing, and I boat the price of all sportfishing...a "Grander"! Amazing! The interest and attention we received at the harbor was incredible. The fish was weighed and pictures were taken! The fish was masterfully filleted to be consumed by people who truly will appreciate it, in true Aloha spirit.

I can't thank Captain Jeff and Captain Rick enough for this increadible experience. They were true professionals; a tribute to their profession! I'm proud of the role my family and I played in their successful accomplishment of boating a "grander". I'm humbled by the experience and feel truly blessed as a sportsman to have had this amazing adventure. Congratulations Captain Jeff, Rick and the Prater Family for this miraculous achievment. Aloha and Mahalo!

Had a great time fishing with Captain Jeff. A bit less than 1 fish per hour average. I would even consider just going out to do the bottom fishing all day, as they are really hard fighting species.

i lost two marlin the day i went out, even before i had a chance to start cranking the reel, so i definitely want to try again.

it is worth every cent to go on this charter, as the fish are big and beautiful. fun day in a magical place with an expert fisherman as host.

We spent a wonderful day "catching" with Capt. Jeff on the Aloha Kai on Feb. 21, 2008, catching a mahi mahi on the troll and an amberjack bottom fishing. Capt. Jeff took time to detour a couple of times to point out spinner dolphins, false killer whales and humpback whales. Our family had a great time and would love to go catching with Capt. Jeff again someday.

I can highly reccommend him to any sportfishermen as I myself will be back for round 2 with these giants(I believe the current world record for Ulua is 145Lbs taken of Hawaii)

Aloha! We fished w/Capt. Jeff on October 31, 2007 on the Aloha Kai which is a very nice boat. We had a great day. He is a very knowledgable, gracious and helpful guide. He's also great with kids. With his skill we caught a very nice tuna and mahi mahi (which he also filleted for us and were mighty good eatin' I must say!) and also tagged and relased 3 amberjack as well. The swell was up and the water was very choppy that day, but Capt. Jeff made sure we had success in catching some good fish! Capt. Jeff is a fine, upstanding individual with a great personality, lots of great stories, and he will do his best to make sure you catch fish! You can't go wrong with Capt. Jeff. Mahalo Capt. Howzit Capt. Jeff? Sorry so long to add my comments. I have been too busy catching fish. Today is Nov. 12,2007. I fished with you on Oct.11,2007. You know my story of fishing from my jet ski equipped with GPS Fishfinder/Plotter and four stainless rod holders that I made myself.I started fishing with big hopes, ambition and persistance. I soon found that I was uneducated and under-equipped.I booked my trip with you on my b-day and fishing has never been the same. The fish we caught with you were awesome, but that's not what I got from your trip. The techniques you showed me and the things I learned by watching you, the boat and the equipment have turned me into a fish vacuum. I have caught more fish in the last month than I have in one year. Thanks Capt. I have caught big ulua, huge kahala, monster sharks and anything swimming at or near the surface to include aku, kawakawa, otaru, kamanu, aha, shibi, kaku, kawelea, ono and yes my favorite sashimi mahi-mahi.In one month I have caught, photographed, kept or released a minimum of 50 fish. You are the best and guaranteed we will fish very soon. I would recommend you to the president, cause Lord knows everyone here on Maui knows about you. Mahalo buddy, Maui Mark and Handi Andi

When I go back to Hawaii, without a doubt, I will call Jeff Rogers. I told Jeff ahead of time that I had a 12 year son and an 18 year old son on the trip with me. He designed a trip that would fit them. Within a matter of minutes, we were on the fish. Although we did not land that first fish, shortly thereafter he hooked us into a leviathan. First he passed the reel to my youngest son, who made little headway, then he passed it to me, and I was winded within 20 minutes, then I passed the real to my 18 year old son who lifts weights. After 45 minutes we boated the great fish that set a record for the year. Later, we came upon a large group of whales, and Jeff circled around several times so my boys could enjoy the whales and take pictures. I left Jeff a good tip and he deserved it. Jeff sent a copy of the fish picture to the local Hawaiin newspaper that did an article on the fish complete with a picture of my sons and me. A consummate gentlemen, Jeff sent copies of the newspaper to me in Texas after I returned. In my book, there is only one guide for Hawaii, and that is Jeff Rogers. I have fished in Belize, Alaska, Texas, and Mexico and other areas and Jeff is one of the finest guides I have ever met.

Thanks Capt. Jeff, Cherryl's comments are all very true , but let me give you my perspective on the fishing trip being a guy that has fished for many years.
Capt. Jeffs bottom fishing technique is very unique, rememeber hes not fishing bass, hes ripping lips of deep water fish. You never know whats on the bottom. It was very interesting watching Capt. Jeff setting up on the drop offs and shelves of a massive fishing hole and putting us on fish. The hands on expericence makes the trip much more exciting, the yellow fin tuna that Cherryl caught was handled by myself and Cherryl, when the fish hit, Cherryl was ready with the fighting belt and I was able to take the rod and and put it in th belt , although as I came around to put the rod in the belt I hit the drag and loosened it, yes it was a birds nest. Capt. Jeff let us fight through the mess up and it was a successful catch. The hands on experince is what makes fishing with Capt. Jeff a true fishing experience. We'll be back. Fish On

We went fishing with Capt. Jeff and the Aloha Kai on July 21, 2006. There were only a handful of marlin caught that day and we were one of them with a 230# blue marlin. Thanks Capt. Jeff!

We chartered two other boats on July 20 and July 22. We fished full days on these other boats and did not even have a bite. My only regret is that I did not book all 3 days with Capt. Jeff.

The Aloha Kai was much cleaner than the other boats that we fished on. It was also the only boat where music was played. There was more legroom on the Aloha Kai and you have a full 360 degree view.

My 19-year old son Jon and I fished two days (July 5th and 7th) with Capt. Jeff on Mega Bites. It was a special trip because Jon had earned it by making the A honor roll each year in high school. Capt. Jeff helped to make it a memorable outing. Jon boated a very nice Ono and a Spearfish the first day. We got hit 5 times total for marlin with 2 hookups and a 300+ Blue caught and released (by dad) after a good fight the second day. Unfortunately, it was a bit rough to do any decent bottom fishing.

Jeff is a pleasure to fish with and to be with on the boat. If you're going to spend the day out on a charter, spend it with someone like Jeff. Mega Bites was the perfect boat for 2 anglers. The layout is excellent and it handled the seas nicely. The stand-up rig is much more fun than being stuck in a chair and was quite sufficient for the nice marlin. It was also a very "hands-on" boat (no mate) with Jon and I getting to change out lures and help set the spread. That made it more interesting.

When I make it back to Kona (probably for my younger son's graduation), we'll be fishing with Jeff.

Our fishing trip on Feb 20, 2006 - our anniversary by the way - was awesome! We boarded the Aloha Kai with really only one main wish and that was to catch something we could enjoy for our anniversary dinner - mahi-mahi, ono, ahi, whatever. Captain Jeff not only fulfilled that wish but also fulfilled a dream I've had for many years - I caught and released a 250# plus Blue Marlin. The Almaco Jack we also caught and released was an added bonus. All of this we captured on video! We followed his instructions on how to prepare the mahi-mahi and had the best anniversary dinner in 24 years. From the time we left the dock in the morning to our return at the end of the day Captain Jeff made not just our fishing experience in Kona but our entire vacation wonderful and memorable. I told the people at the Charter Desk it was the best "bottom fishing" I've ever had! Mahalo nui loa, Captain Jack!

We'll be sure to let you know how we do off the shores of Eastern Long Island this year!! Hope to CATCH some fish with you again soon.

If you want a captain that is going to put you on the fish, Captain Jeff is the person for you. Having fished all over the US, I found Captain Jeff to be the most informed captain i have had the pleasure to meet. We fished with Captain Jeff on 3/25/05/and 3/29/05, and even though the bite was off, he managed to catch us fish. We chartered the Dream Catcher, and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the dock. The picture on the web site does not do the boat justice. I hope to fish with him again in the future. Aloha Captain Jeff, stay well, Rich and Rick

Thank you for all your efforts during our fishing trip last month. We all had a great time (even though the 500lbder eluded us). I appreciate your extra efforts to insure the kids all caught fish. They are still bragging about their experience. It was great that you shared your secret spot so we could catch the amberjack.

Fished with Jeff on Feb. 28 and March 3 and caught lots of different fish. Started with the two bull mahi mahis, then the shark, then the tuna (4) then the best of all, the blue marlin. Quite a first day! Second day went slower, with the amber jack and then the 500 pound shark eating it. Quite a battle. Good captain, good boat, good time, and worth the money for an adventure like this. We catch lots of fish here at home, but not of that size! Thanks, Jeff.

Capt. Jeff gave us a great day. We pulled in a nice amberjack and a shark, and enjoyed his stories. The thing I liked best about him is that he was honest and up-front (and cheerful, which you don't always find on these fishing tours).

Take advantage of all the useful information he has on his site... especially about preventing sea sickness. We followed his advice and none of us even had a hint of nausea.

What isn't mentioned too much on the site is all the sea life you can encounter out there. We saw a group of pilot whales, some turtles, humpbacks, and all sorts of ocean critters.

Thanks for a great time. We will be back!!

If you’re looking to have fun ‘catching’ fish, big fish, and really don’t care what kind other than big, Captain Jeff is your man! We were expecting less and got way more than we bargained for.
Fishing on the Dream Catcher December 15 on a full day charter, we landed a mahi mahi and a small yellow fin tuna for the table, missed another mahi mahi, two barracuda, and a hungry dolphin, and caught and released a 500 lbs dusky shark and a +750 lbs tiger shark all on stand up tackle.
I recommend not cutting yourself short with less than a full day charter. You won’t regret it. Bring film, lots of film, and a camera that takes movies. After this experience we now qualify to fight fish on the Mega Bites! Thank you, Captain Jeff, for the memories and see you next time we’re in Hawaii. No doubt about it!

Another GREAT trip with Capt Jeff -- we caught four little Frigate Mackeral and two nice-sized Mahi-mahi. Free fighting that 28-pounder took almost as much out of me as fighting the 13-foot Tiger Shark my previous trip with Jeff. Jeff is a consumate professional...and a nice guy to boot! If you haven't fished with him, you've missed a great experience. With Jeff you don't go fishing, you go catching!

Aloha, this was our 2nd time on the Big Island (2003 also) and fishing with Capt. Jeff again of course. This year we had 6 great days. My wife and I have fished in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Mauritius, but Kona with Capt. Jeff is the nr.1 for us. We've some nice video and you can watch them here and on my website very soon. Jumping Blue Marlin (awesome video), fighting Amberjacks and even a rescue operation of a world record Almaco jack (instead of killing and bring him/her in and apply for the record!). All the fish we caught, we did with stand-up gear. Believe me, this is really fun to do. It’s even better than an afternoon doing workouts at the gym. If you want to catch fish and have a great time off the Kona coast, look no further and book a charter with Capt. Jeff.
We’ll be back next year September, that’s for sure.
Mahalo Capt. Jeff, tight lines!

My son, Brian, and I had a great day of fishing with Capt. Jeff. on October 12th. We caught three amberjacks and had a couple of hits on the marlin rods during our full day trip. We had some great discussions with Capt. Jeff comparing our Alaskan techinques to the fishing style of Kona and the time seemed to pass much too quickly. Capt. Jeff is very innovative and works extremely hard to improve his techniques and our results. We were fishing with a lure that he developed and we were testing. You can't beat that. Will I go again? You bet; everytime I'm in Kona.

I fished off Kona with Captain Jeff on September 14, 2004. We caught a very challenging 80 lb. 55 inch long Amber Jack, and another 35 lb. Amber Jack using live bait that we had caught going out to sea off Kona. I had a great time, not just catching my largest fish ever, but I also learned more about fishing from Captain Jeff. The Captain is a very personable guy who loves to fish and chat with people. I will do my best to get back to Kona again, just to fish with Captain Jeff. My all-day charter far exceeded my expectations. I feel like I'll be keeping Captain Jeff and memories of that deep-sea Kona fishing in my memory banks for a lifetime. Don't hesitate to book with Captain Jeff. He makes it a totally great experience.

This was my first time big game fishing and I had no idea what to expect or which boat and captain to choose. After viewing captain Jeff's extremly informative website I decided to take a 3/4 day on the Ocean reef. This was the best time I've had in years! I caught and released a Marlin, kept 2 Otaru and a 97 pound Amberjack that I fought for half and hour! I actually wanted to head in early after all the action! Captain Jeff tried his best to make sure I caught fish, and as you can see in the photos I did. If you are going to go all the way to Kona to fish you might as well fish with best! I'll be back this winter.

Had a great day on the water with Capt. Jeff. He worked non-stop start to finish to make sure that we had a good fishing experiance. Had a good battle with a 75lb Amberjack and my 10 year old had a blast catching the SkipJack Tuna that we used for bait. We were looking forward to a couple of more hook-ups but Flipper and his friends had other ideas and kept stealing our bait.I would highly recommend a day of fishing with Capt. Jeff on the Ocean Reef. Thanx again Jeff, see you next time.... Brandon and Randy

Many thanks for the fun day we had fishing with you.

They couldn't wait to check-out your webpage with the catch pictures.

Happy father's day!

P.S.: Ciguaterra is not seen in Florida as far as I know neither with amberjack nor with red snapper ( according to Genesis Health System of Florida, only barracuda has been implicated here in Florida, and therefore doesn't create a public health hazard). Most health reports come from the Pacific Islands.

I was planning a surprise for my husband, David's, 50th birthday, and wanted to send him sport fishing off the Kona coast. He loves to fish and this has been a dream of his. After extensive research on line, I choose Captian Jeff Rogers (and Bob) and the boat the Grandslam. It was an excellent choice. My reason for choosing Capt. Rogers, was his friendliness and wealth of information. He was nice but professional... And I e-mailed him A LOT before deciding... He never once lost his cool. This turned out to be a great thing. I flew my husband's best friend over to the islands (while our family was vacationing there for spring break) and the two of them met Captian Jeff and the rest is history. Ten minutes out of the harbor, my husband, Dave, hooked a huge 700 pound marlin!!!...and the fight was on. Needless to say it was a day my husband will never forget, and the kindness of Capt. Roger's and the boat owner Bob, was fantastic and much appreciated. Next time i am going to give it a try myself... The boys said they would not have changed a thing... everything was perfectly as it should've been and a wonderful birthday surprise for my husband... Big thanks to Captian Jeff Rogers for all of his help and guidance.

We were a party of four who booked a deep sea fishing adventure with Captain Jeff as an independent shore excursion for the single day that our cruise ship was in port in Kona. We began our research a full year in advance and were attracted to Captain Jeff's services because of the depth of information he made available on his web page. We wanted a quality experience and would have been content just to be "on the water," but Captain Jeff surpassed our expectations. We fished aboard the "Carnivore." The vessle was immaculately maintained and well outfitted with quality tackle. I have fished in many charter situations in which the tackle may have started out as "quality" but degraded over the years for lack of maitenance. Such was not the case. Penn International reels were fully spooled; there were no nicks or abrasion in the line; all knots and connections were sound; and the drags were smooth.

We set out in pursuit of elusive marlin, but they were not biting -- for the Carnivore or any other charter on that day. Captain Jeff quickly switched tactics to make it possible for us to catch bait-size tuna and stubborn amberjack. Captain Jeff provided us with a warm "welcome aboard" and his congenial manner lasted throughout the day. We felt like we were truly his guests and that he was committed to helping us to achieve a quality Kona fishing experience. In addition, Captain Jeff is a good teacher and provided just the right amount of instruction which was individualized according to the range of angling experience held by each member of our charter group.

I highly recommend Captain Jeff's services for any discriminate angler.

We had a great time fishing two days (6/18 & 6/25) with Capt. Jeff on the Carnivore. Right from the start, we noticed that Jeff worked hard at trying to hook up with fish. When one method or area wasn't producing, he was quick to make the necessary changes. As a result, while other boats were returing to the harbor with no success, we were able to fly flags for a variety of fish. We caught several ono and a 70 lb. sand bar shark, but the highlight was an 8 1/2 ft. - 161 lb. marlin we boated. All in all, Jeff was an enjoyable captain to fish with and his knowledge of the waters and the sport prove him as a highliner in the Kona charter fleet. We would definitely fish with him again.

I only wish I could say nice things about my co-fishermen (Bob, Mike, Larry), as I can for Jeff, but they unfortunately took every opportunity to steal my hook ups (Larry), and one (Larry) even had his picture taken with anothers fish. Jeff thanks for the great time!

Many thanks for the great time on the water, fishing. It was wonderful and so very relaxing. Ron and I enjoyed every minute of our three days fishing the Pacific Ocean. Even though, at times, the fishing was somewhat slow, the mere size of the fish caught, more than made up for the time spent in waiting. The fish were soooo huge! The pics will be added to our trophy fish picture collection. Thanks, again, for a great experience.

Capt. Jeff~

I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful time! Catching not one, but two Mahi Mahi was quite an experience! I know I can speak for my family when I say that you made our vacation and we will look you up next year when we return to Kona. All i can say to anyone deciding if they should or should not book Capt. Jeff, is that YOU WILL CATCH FISH! There were 6 of us and we caught 7 Mahi Mahi (not to mention the 3 fish that got off) and one Amberjack! Have fun fishing in Kona! I know that August 15th is a date that will stick out in my head forever!

We had a blast! You and Bob were so very nice. The shark was outrageous! My daughter still wants half of the credit for the shark since it was her bait fish that brought it up. I will never hear the end of how she should have caught it. We will always remember that day. When we come back again ...and we will...we want to do another day of fantastic fun and fishing with you! Maybe then we can catch that grander I wanted too.

I had a great time on a 3/4 day trip on the Carnivore July 2, 2002. Jeff runs a clean boat and works hard on getting fish on the deck. I did both trolling in the morning for Ono and Aku. I had several double hooks ups on Aku, really a fun fish to fight. We had four for the day. Then Jeff took me to the bottom to fish. First hookup a 60 lb reef shark from 500 ft down...boy what a fight. Next drop down was a 25 lb gray snapper. So I had a total of 5 fish for the day. Jeff is a great guy and knows his stuff. He did a wonderful job on preparing the fish. Aku was great suchi that night and grill the rest. The gray snapper was the BEST eating fish I have had in Hawaii, tasted better than white sea bass. Anyway thanks again Jeff for a great time and I plan to charter you again next year when I am in Kona.

We had a great time on our 3/4 day charter of the Carnivore. Really nice clean boat. Tried both trolling and bottom fishing and had quite a few hits on both. Enjoyed watching my wife haul the shark up from 150 fathoms. It looked like a lot of work! Caught a nice mahi mahi - a really pretty fish. Thought I might end up BEING BAIT after screwing up on a pretty decent sized marlin ( just kidding ). At least there's one more big one out there for you. We highly recommend Captn. Jeff. You'll have fun, learn a lot and catch fish.

The second day was even more exciting, catching a 304 lb. blue marlin-my biggest fish to date. You run a clean boat, are a top notch captain and a fun guide. Couldn't ask for more from a charter fishing trip. We would highly recommend you to anyone and look forward to fishing with you again to try to top 304 lbs. Thanks for the wonderful

What an fantastic day of fishing!! If you want to catch fish you have to go with Jeff. He is the fish GOD!! Our all day charter started out a little slow but man did it pick up. We caught a big toothy sand bar shark, a 109# amber jack, a beautiful yellow fin tuna, a short billed sword fish and 3 onos. Not counting the 5 skip jack we used for bait. There was so many fish in the boat we were tripping over them!! If you dont go fishing with Captain Jeff your not fishing. Thanks again Jeff for the great day. I still have my rubber band.

What a great half day trip with Capt Jeff! Action from the getgo with several tuna on line, but unfortunately not landed. Not Jeff's fault.. over eagerness on my part and got in his way.

The 38 pound amberjack was definitely the largest fish that I have ever caught. Can only imagine the stamina necessary to bring in a marlin.

Capt. Jeff,
Sorry for being so late in telling you what a great time that I and my family had fishing with you. The only thing that my boys are upset at was that I took most of the time of our trip to land and bring to port the 851 1/2 # marlin that I (and you) caught. I still owe 2 of my sons a chance to catch a fish with you next year. Though Chris who caught the amberjack wants a shot at a marlin. Thanks, Bill

We all had a great time on the 3/4 day charter. While the surface bite was nonexistent, Captain Jeff's specialty of bottom fishing put us onto the fish, a great time for all aboard. We played a few big fish and the Almaco jacks we landed were beautiful. It was awesome to see the 10 ft tiger shark that almost got my Almaco Jack, it definitely kept me from taking a dip in the water. I'm already planning a trip to Kona next year to fish with Capt Jeff again. Fish On !!!

Many thanks from two novices for a great day! I was concerned that we might spend an entire day without any action but your record came through for us! The three amberjacks and the sand bar shark were excellent fights and we both had the sore arm muscles the next day to prove it. We won't mention a fourth (presumably) amberjack that Dad lost! A most exciting adventure. The bottom fishing assures you the utmost possibility of "catching" and not just "fishing". Do that for awhile and then go for the trolling possibilities and you never know what might happen!! This was absolutely a life experience. Anyone looking for a great days fishing with a knowledgeable, friendly,
courteous captain who will go out of his way to make sure you have a great
days fishing, should make sure they charter with Captain Jeff. I found him
on the internet looking for current information about the Kona fishing scene.
I had 2 great days of fishing on the K-IX. Jeff knows just where the fish
are. Even when the bite was slow the days I was out, I still caught a tuna,
amberjack, and had an estimated 200 pound plus marlin on that got off right
at the back of the boat. I highly recommend you book with Capt. Jeff Rogers

We had a GREAT trip with Capt. Rogers! He put us on fish all day and demonstrated that he truly wanted us to have a great time. We tried different techniques and all worked. Capt. Jeff continually told us what we were doing and why. If you want a captain who sits upstairs all day, driving you over the ocean while catching nothing, go with someone else. Found Jeff & K-IX shopping on the net. What a find! Wanted to, on my second Kona fishing experience, see what else Kona fishing had to offer besides fast trolling 4 to 8 hours. To make a long story short, Jeff made it happen. As much bottom fishing (and catching) as my body could take along with fun fishing for small tuna and what ever else happened to grab the lures. And, to top it off, picked up a spearfish on our first troll out and a nice marlin on the last troll in. Of course, some luck was involved, but having the right equipment and knowledge of when, where and how to catch Kona fish did help the luck.
Thanks Jeff, we'll do it again next year. However, I'm bringing another strong back (my son) to spell me between amberjacks or whatever else grabs the bait.

Greetings Jeff,

I just wanted to say thanks for an absolutely fabulous day of fishing, or as you so appropriately put it, "catching". It was clearly the most successful charter trip I have ever had anywhere, including Kona, bar none. As a matter fact my arms were pretty sore the following day from the fish we had caught, but the fun time and the delicious fish BBQ we had made the muscle soreness well worth it. Thanks again and I'll be sure to refer all of my friends and book with you the next time I'm in Kona. Take care and good luck with everything, we wish you the best.

Capt'n Jeff: What fun catching, landing and releasing so many Ono on our 1/2 day charter May 10th. My wife and I had never been deep sea fishing on a personal charter before. While seated with you high above the deck in the cool morning sea breeze, we not only learned alot about fishing, but about local sea currents, the Big Island, your family and your local youth pastorship. We had a super time fishing. It was one of the highlights for our trip. The uncertainty of what we were going to catch was particularly exciting, and indeed, what a thrill it was to catch two 400+ lb. bronze whaler sharks! Aloha Jeff!

Just writing to thank you for a great Kona fishing trip. Also,
for anyone checking out the K-IX webpage, I highly recommend
booking a trip with Jeff if you are interested in CATCHING
fish! I am an avid fisherman, plus have guided in Alaska and Jeff
is a total professional in getting you into some big jacks, plus knows his trolling too.
I was amazed that hardly a single bait made it to the bottom before being
engulfed by big fish. Thanks for letting me use my fly rod too.Next time, hopefully
we'll hook a big one on it, instead of just "making bait". Also, a BIG thanks to
Bill for taking us out on "Old Flame" while the K-IX was sidelined.

Til next time;

What a great day! Capt. Jeff has a class act for fishing! We caught some great fish and he knows EXACTLY where they are. Capt. Jeff had a good heads up play on the way back to port spotting a school of tuna on the surface and getting a rod out from his spot up high while driving the boat resulting in one tuna to the boat and several more hookups. WOW! what a bonus to an already great day. We will be back for more fun when we are back on the island. Thanks... Phil and Barbara Burks

I have fished multiple times during trips to Hawaii. By far and without comparison Jeff did the best job for myself and daughters. I will fish with Jeff again and would recommend his charter to anyone. He handled everything and our experience was fantastic!!!

Capt Jeff,

We did exactly what you said we would do. Catch Fish!!!! The biggest fish in our life. Even though the Blue Marlin and one shark got away the Amberjacks & Gray Snapper were a blast to catch, and my back is still aching from the 350lb 12 foot shark that we caught and released. No doubt our best fishing trip ever. We'll be back. You really know your stuff and we would recommend you to anybody that wants to catch fish and have a great time with a great person. Hi Jeff,
Thanks for making our fishing trip in Hawaii a fantastic experience. You are a great, caring skipper. When I didn't think I could bring in my
Amberjack, you gave me the strength to do it. Boy was I glad. What a feeling! Back here I fish for striped bass and the largest one I caught
was 7 1/2 pounds, 27 1/2 inches. Nothing compares to catching that big one. Let me know if you get that big shark that swallowed my other
fish. Good luck!! Gary had a great time catching his fish too.

Thanks so much

Jeff,

Thanks for the great time on the K-IX. After those
hard-fighting amberjacks, our arms were sore for two
days. Maybe next time I'll do some weightlifting
beforehand and try some deep water jigging! :)
Best wishes for success as you continue to refine
your innovative approach to Kona fishing.

We had a wonderful day fishing with capt. Jeff, March 1, 2001. You are so imformative and helpful, we have fished alot in California, but nothing like this! This is no expensive boat ride, and you might catch a fish! Joe caught and released ! amberjack,I almacojack,1striped marlin and a shortnose spearfish. Pat and Gary caught and released 1 amberjack and a shortnose spearfish and 1 amberjack. Capt. Jeff knows how to fish and loves it. You will catch fish and learn alot. Thanks for one of the best days of my life. God Bless You!

Captain Jeff,
Just a note to let you know how much my wife and son enjoyed our day with you.
You are a real pro who knows the Kona waters like the back of your hand.
The shark made the day very interesting. Since this was the first fish
that my wife has ever caught, what do you suggest for an encore?

My only regret is that we ran our of bait to early.
This may have been a day of destiny if not for lack of
bait. A great time was had by all.

Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Just a super day fishing with Jeff Rogers!! He is an exceptionally talented guide who knows how to find and catch trophy fish. My wife has never caught a fish before in her entire life until we booked with Capt. Jeff Rogers- and her first fish was a striped marlin! However, the best part of the day was sharing some good conversation with Jeff Rogers in the beautiful blue waters of the Pacific Ocean off the Kona coast! Just can't say enough about the wonderful experience we had with Capt. Rogers. It was the highlight of our business-vacation trip to Kona, Hawaii. Thanks for the great time, Jeff!

We spent two great days fishing with Jeff to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. We caught 3 1/4 amberjack - a shark got the other 3/4's giving us a great fight in the process - and two mahi mahi. Jeff was great to be with and did a great job of pacing the fishing to keep it interesting. We definitely plan on fishing with Jeff again.

Aloha, Captain Jeff! Sadly, we are now back in Montana where the only fishing we can do right now is ice fishing! A great big thanks to you for a great time - we're very impressed that even though the weather didn't cooperate and we had to come in after only 6 hours, you managed to hook all three of us up with 30#-plus amberjacks!! Not bad considering this was Michael's first fishing trip...ever!!
Mahalo, and until next time, wishing you great times and tight lines!!

Never having fished Hawaii before we booked two charters, letting both captains know our main interest was catching fish. The first trip was an 8 hour boat ride with nary a strike---this captain didn't know what catching fish meant. Capt. Jeff did. The Marlin were not on the bite so we fished for Amberjack and Giant Trevally and although we did catch an incidintal Marlin we caught the other fish (to 45lbs.) till our arms ached. Would we fish with Jeff again? In a heart-beat. I've fished the Pacific from Alaska to Costa Rica and have never had a better experience than the one with Capt. Jeff.
Wishing you all good fishing,

Dear Captain Jeff:

Thanks to you (and the Salty Dog) for two great days of fishing. A wonderful time was had by all, and we were certainly sore from hauling in GIANT Amberjack on day #1. Although the marlin action was a bit slower, we appreciated all your efforts in trying to hook us up with one. And, on TWO separate occasions when we finally had hits, we knew you felt as badly as we did when they spit out the lure and bid us "aloha." Also, we know we were fortunate to spot (with you) a marlin at the surface attempting to eat a dead puffer fish... something rarely observed by humans. Can't wait to come back to the big island and book you for another charter. Until then, best wishes for continued good (and safe) fishing.

My wife, 7 year-old son, 6 year-old daughter, and I have been out twice with Capt. Jeff. Both times we caught fish! Big fish! The biggest fish we've ever caught! More importantly we had a GREAT TIME! Capt. Jeff is AWESOME!

My buddy, Carlos, and I fished with Jeff and then cancelled another charter to be able to fish with him again. He found fish and help us use the fly and light tackle we brought to use. We are looking forward to fishing with Jeff in the future.

When we showed up at the dock, we told Cap'n Jeff that we didn't want to "fish," - we wanted to CATCH! And that's just what we did, pulling in fish after fish after fish after...

Great fun all around and the best deal in Kona! Thanks Cap'n Jeff!

I caught 2 sharks. One 100 and one 200. We were not successful in getting marlin, but I had a great time in any case. Capt. Jeff provided a great experience for me and I am ready to do it again. Maybe I will be able to go back next year.

I had a great time, the only problem I had was that I chartered his boat for two days by myself. I caught so many large fish the first day, including a 216lb Blue Martin, that I really didn't need to fish two days, I couldn't eat all the fish from the first day and my arm was a little sore. But pound for pound Jeff knows fishing.

We had a wonderful day on the ocean. Jeff took us right to the fish. I caught a 100 pound shark and my son-in-law caught two fish that weighed almost 100 pounds. He knows a lot about fishing and shows you a terrific time. I give him two thumbs up.

Capt. Jeff knows his stuff and how to totally exhaust a angler. In hindsight, I had a great experience and accidently caught my first Marlin. Immediate reaction was "ouch." Would do it again.
